Context
The Singapore CPF (Central Provident Fund) mobile app is designed to provide CPF members with convenient access to their CPF account information and services on the go.
It consists of crucial functions such as Retirement Top-up Fund, Housing Refund, Contribution Calculator, Special/Retirement Account Top-up, and CPF balance checking.
Challenge
Apart from the look and feel, the current tools on the app lacked a focus on usability, usefulness, and desirability. The challenge was to balance these factors in the interface to boost user engagement and satisfaction across all demographics.
Goal
To enhance the user interface's functionality and appeal to improve user satisfaction.
Target audience
Members of the public (Age 15 & above)
Background
I played my part in improving the interface and interaction design by creating new, intuitive and purposeful visual elements to help users navigate the system.
Process
User interviews
I conducted user interviews to identify any frictions in the interface for clarity and usability, and refined visual elements by aligning them with CPF's brand identity.
Show & Tell
Occasional show-and-tell sessions with stakeholders highlighted updates of visual elements, such as clearer hierarchies, consistent branding, and enhanced interaction flows. I demonstrated how these changes can contribute to a better user satisfaction.
Refining documentation
Outdated information was updated, and critical details were highlighted to enhance accessibility for all stakeholders.
Solution
Trust is incorporated through transparent design choices, secure interactions, and clear progress indicators, fostering confidence in the app’s reliability while addressing user needs and enhancing satisfaction.
Learnings
Consistency Builds Trust
Maintaining visual and interaction consistency aligned with CPF’s branding fosters user confidence and reliability.
Importance of User-Centered Design
Although I was not directly involved in user research for this project, focusing on intuitive interactions and interfaces remains a crucial aspect of a designer's role, as it significantly enhances usability.
